Median income rising above S$4,400
Singaporeans and permanent residents
MOM announced that this year's median gross monthly income grew to S$4,437. It is the wage for Singaporeans and permanent residents who were employed full-time.
It has risen about $200 from S$4,232 last year and $400 from S$4,056 the previous year.
For the past 5 years since 2013, the median gross monthly income grew by 3.5%. The previous growth over 5 years from 2008 and 2013 was 1.9%.
Lower income workers, as 20% of labour force, saw their median income grow 4.2% a year over the past 5 years.
MOM explains that this could be the result of dropping foreign hiring and initiatives such as the Wage Credit Scheme.
The employment rate among Singaporeans and PRs (between age 25 and 64) was 80.3% and slightly lower than last year 80.7%. For those who are above 65, the employment rate rose to 26.8% higher than 25.8% last year.
