New way of using SNS tools well, for your career
"Social media: Is it still worth your while?" - The Straits Times
Whether the social media is still worthwhile? - The title on the weekend Straits Times article grabbed my attention.
I sometimes feel that the social media feed are too perfect with showing off styles, and
cannot help but feel that it has nothing to do with career achievements.
So, the editor Lydia Lim joined the Asia Journalism Forum, where she learned social media at a deeper level from Sree Sreenivasan - former chief digital officer of the City of New York and Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met), and now a digital consultant.
He believes the qualities of social media rely on the good use of it - namely confidence and transparency.
His plucky feed was posted when he lost job due to cost-cuts at the Met, where his appointment was the Met's chief digital officer running a 70-strong social newsroom.
"Instead of taking cover (on SNS) to hide, Sree did the opposite."
Then, the article continues,
"He went public with his dismissal, sharing the Met's memo about his departure and thanking his boss and team."
Then he asked there if anyone wants to invite him to anything, as he then has time, including for meaningful cups of coffee and drinks.
Surprisingly, 1,400 people responded to his post.
He introduces his preferred approach on SNS is to gather and build communities online around shared interests.
