Retrenched PMETs have difficulties in finding jobs

The last SDS newsletter picked up the article that both of jobless rate and layoffs are being on the rise during 2018Q2.

And this time, it is about the PMETs who were retrenched recently.
The Straits Times article published on Sep 24 says that the bulk of layoffs (during 2018Q2) came from the services sector, with professionals, managers, executives and technicians - the PMETs - comprising 79% of all retrenched residents.
"While it is unclear if PMETs are more exposed to retrenchment", Mr Walter Theseira, labour economist, noted, "These workers have more specialised skills and higher expectations, making it harder for them to find the best fit".
On the other hand, job vacancies recorded 3-year high of 56,700 as of June 30.
The fact is that talent shortage can be seen while jobless rate has been rising.
What we should focus on hiring is to prevent job skills mismatch.
