More job openings than unemployed people - Singapore 2018Q1
Statistics by MOM (June 13)
MOM released the latest statics that showed slight improvement in 2018 Q1, with fewer retrenchment figures: 2,320 workers. It dropped from 4,000 in the Q1 of 2017.
Although MOM says the number is higher than its expectation (2,100), the retrenchment trend since 2013 shows better compared to the period from 2015 to 2017 (recording 3,000 to 5,000).
The article on the Straits Times says that 61% of retrenched people managed to find work within 6 months, but groups who are 50 and older for PMETs positions, seem to have some difficulties to get employed as soon as other age groups do.
The statics also revealed that there were more job openings than unemployed people, for the first time since March 2016.
More than half of the vacancies in the Q1 of 2018 were for PMETs, mainly in information and communications sector, community, social and personal services sector, and professional services sector.
