Deeper discussion on Singapore's foreign manpower policies again?
Shortage of highly skilled tech talent in the Digital Transformation Era
A piece or article on the Straits Times newspaper caught my eyes.
"The debate over Singapore's approach to foreign manpower has subsided in recent years, but it is returning to the fore as companies confront the challenges of digital transformation".
Under the current manpower policy in Singapore, that is, hire locas first, we cannot rely on foreign talents to fill up the positions which require highly skilled techniques.
Companies seem to have claimed the shortage is holding back their growth plans.
However, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat said that we should not make changes too hastily because this needs to be sustained.
For the companies to be able to transform successfully in this DX(Digital Transformation) era, the key is finding right people who have high level of skills and experience.
The article concludes: The pressures of a tight labour market might lead to the necessity of rethinking foreign manpower issue soon.
