MC free = promotion and reward?
Sudden death of SIA crew raises a controversy
Earlier this month, SIA flight stewardess was found dead in an overseas hotel just before her flight back to Singapore.
She was a senior flight attendant working with SIA for 16 years and reported that she was ill for 2 days before the incident.
On the facebook, a user claimed that SIA crew intend to avoid taking sick leaven even when ill because it would affect their chances of a promotion.
Triggered by this posting, people raised a controversy over the rewarding system for a MC free record.
According to the Straits Times article, it is said that employees have incentive points that are docked when they submit a medical certificate.
On the other hand, local recruitment company, JobsCentral, has conducted the survey some years ago and revealed the result that 1 in 5 employee in Singapore goes on medical leave to avoid work.
Responding to this tragedy, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announced that all employees have right to MCs if they are on sick or hospitalisation leave, in accordance with doctors' instructions.
We just want to avoid the unexpected tragedies or illnesses worsened.
