Monthly salary rises from S$3K to S$3.3K for new EP application
Effective from next year
Another "Singaporeans come first" rule was announced by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) recently: Changes on hiring foreigners.
First, the qualifying salary for new employment pass (EP) will be raised from S$3,000 to S$3,300 from January 1, 2014.
Second, employers making new EP applications must put job ads on a new jobs bank administered by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), which is to be open to Singaporean job-seekers only. After running the ads for at least 14 calendar days, firms can consider hiring foreigners for EP positions. This will come into effect on August 1, 2014.
The new rules are known as the Fair Consideration Framework (FCF) which require employers to consider Singaporeans fairly before hiring white colour foreigners.
We need to be ready for these changes. There are a few exceptional cases, too.
